<div>
</div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">
<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
।</div>
<div>
</div>
</div>

<div>
The Supreme Court today ordered that the committee appointed to oversee the refund of money by PACL Ltd. to its investors will have the jurisdiction to look into overseas assets of PACL.</div>
<div>
This order was passed in an application filed by Kerala based investors and employees of PACL praying for a direction to the court-appointed Committee to seize and sell all properties situated in Australia and belonging to the Company, its promoters and directors.</div>
<div>
The matter was heard today by a Bench of Justices Anil R Dave and AK Goel. Advocates PB Suresh, Vipin Nair, CP Chandrasekharan, Tishampati Sen and Prithu Garg appeared for the petitioners. Advocate Surekha Raman appeared for SEBI.</div>
<div>
The Supreme Court had appointed the committee headed by former Chief Justice of India, RM Lodha on February 2, 2016 to oversee the refunds.</div>
<div>
The employees, investors and customers had intervened in the matter through an association PACL Employees and Customer Protection Forum. In their application, the Petitioner association had contended that,</div>
<div>
“the Promoters and Directors of PACL, in particular its Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Nirmal Bhangoo, has transferred over USD 130 million (i.e., approx. INR 884 Crores) from out of the amounts collected from investors in India, to Australia.”</div>
<div>
The petitioner has also made serious allegations against former Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh and former Australian High Commissioner to India, Peter Varhgese. The petitioner has submitted that Bligh directly dealt with requests from members of Nirmal Bhangoo’s family to obtain “state-sponsored” visas.</div>
<div>
The petitioner had sought for a direction to be issued that all properties either in the name of PACL Ltd. or in the names of its Promoters/ Directors be sold by the Committee appointed pursuant to the order of February 2, 2016. It has also prayed for a direction to be issued to the Lodha Committee to contact the Competent Authorities in Australia to enquire into and deal with all properties of PACL Ltd.</div>
<div>
The Supreme Court had issued notice in the application on March 31 last week and listed the matter for today. After hearing the parties, the Court enlarged the scope of its earlier order of February 2 and directed that the Lodha Committee would have jurisdiction to look into the assets of PACL even outside India.</div>
<div>
With this order, the assets of sister concerns and associates of PACL will also come under the purview of the Supreme Court order of February 2.</div>

<b>SC Names Panel to Monitor PACL Assets Sales: </b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday appointed an expert committee headed by former Chief Justice of India R M Lodha to monitor the sales of assets and refund of money to the investors of Pearls Agrotech Corporation Ltd (PACL).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A bench, comprising justices Anil Dave and Adarsh Goel, also said that the title deeds of various lands belonging to PACL should be handed over by the CBI to the SEBI, which shall accordingly take appropriate steps to ensure their sale for the purpose of refunding the money to the investors.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It also directed PACL not to accept any deposit from the public and restrained any court from interfering with sale proceedings. The bench posted the matter for further hearing on August 2, 2016.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The panel is looking to sell unencumbered land parcels around Delhi and the National Capital Region and has pegged valuation of unencumbered assets at Rs 16,000 crore. </div>
<div>
Market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) had constituted a three-member committee under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice RM Lodha for disposing off the land purchased by and refunding the proceeds to investors.</div>

<b>PACL investors move Supreme Court to sell company’s Australia assets</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In a major development in the PACL Ponzi scam, the employees, investors and customers in Kerala have filed a fresh application in the Supreme Court praying for a direction to the court-appointed Committee to seize and sell all properties situated in Australia and belonging to the Company, its promoters and directors.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The matter was mentioned today by advocates PB Suresh, Vipin Nair and Tishampathy Sen before the Bench of Justices Anil R Dave, Shiva Kirti Singh and AK Goel. The Court took the application on board, issued notice and posted it for hearing on April 5.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The employees, investors and customers had earlier intervened in the matter through an association PACL Employees and Customer Protection Forum (Petitioner).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In their application, the Petitioner association has contended that the the Promoters and Directors of PACL “in particular its Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Nirmal Bhangoo, has transferred over USD 130 million (i.e., approx. INR 884 Crores) from out of the amounts collected from investors in India, to Australia.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“It is believed more than USD 100 million (i.e., approx. INR 680 Crores) has been transferred by the Directors of PACL Ltd. to Australia. Investigations indicate that in the year 2009 the said transferred money was used to purchase the Hotel Sheraton Mirage in the Gold Coast city. Mr. Nirmal Bhangoo is considered to have spent USD 62 million in buying the said resort and USD 20 million more in renovating it.”</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The petitioner has also made serious allegations against former Queensland Premier Anna Bligh and former Australian High Commissioner to India, Peter Varhgese.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>As per the petition,</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“It is further submitted that it is understood that in October 2010, in Delhi, as part of a trade mission, and Brisbane’s 2018 Commonwealth Games bid, former Queensland Premier Ms. Anna Bligh and the then Australian High Commissioner to India, Peter Varghese, met Pearls Group directors, i.e., Mr. Gurpratap Singh, Mrs. Sukhwinder Kaur and Mr. Rikhab Jai, along with the Pearls Australia – joint managing directors – Mr. Paul Brinsmead and Peter Madrers. The said meeting reportedly was “designed to encourage the Pearls Group to increase its investment portfolio in Queensland”.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The petitioner has submitted that Bligh directly dealt with requests from members of Bhangoo’s family to obtain “state-sponsored” visas.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
“Reportedly, it is a matter of record that Ms. Bligh dealt directly with requests from members of Mr. Bhangoo’s family to obtain “state-sponsored” visas. It is submitted and ought to be noted that a number of Mr. Bhangoo’s relatives are now living in Australia. His daughter, Barinder Kaur, and her family lives in an opulent canal-front property in the Gold Coast suburb of Hope Island, bought for USD 4.95 million (approx. INR 33.7 Crores) in 2011 by Pearls Infrastructure Projects, an affiliate of PACL Ltd.”</div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
<b>The petitioner has made, inter alia, the following prayers:</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Pass an order directing that all properties either in the name of PACL Ltd. or in the names of its Promoters/ Directors be sold by the Committee appointed pursuant to the order dated 2.02.2016</div>
<div>
Direct SEBI and the Lodha Committee to contact the Competent Authorities at Australia to enquire into and deal with all properties of PACL Ltd. </div>
<div>
On February 2 this year, the Court had appointed a Committee headed by former Chief Justice of India RM Lodha to oversee the refund of money by PACL to its investors.</div>

</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Charu Aggarwal asked the CBI investigating officer to give all deficient documents annexed with the charge sheet to the accused, who told the court that they have not received the complete set.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The court fixed May 9 for completing the process of scrutiny of documents and further proceedings in the case.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Advocate Manish Jain and Vijay Aggarwal, who appeared for Bhangoo, moved an application under Section 207 of the CrPC seeking copies of the documents.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The court had earlier taken cognisance on the charge sheet filed in the case on April 7.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The charge sheet was filed against Bhangoo, his firms Pearl Agrotech Corporation Ltd (PACL), Pearls Golden Forest Ltd (PGF), and its promoters and directors Sukhdev Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Subrata Bhattacharya under various sections of the IPC and the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CBI has charged the accused for various alleged offences including criminal conspiracy, dishonestly receiving stolen property, cheating and forgery under the IPC and under sections 4 and 5 of the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The four individual accused, arrested on January 8 after two years of CBI probe ordered by the Supreme Court in the country's largest reported ponzi scam, are presently in judicial custody.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
During the probe in the last two years, CBI has said it has found 1,300 bank accounts of the suspect company, their directors and associated firms.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CBI had claimed that huge money was bungled by accused by duping many investors by luring them with attractive land deals and it had frozen the group's assets, mostly fixed deposit receipts, to the tune of Rs 280 crore and an additional Rs 108 crore was deposited with Delhi High Court.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CBI had said it has managed to seize 20,000 property documents believed to be of Rs 5,000 crore of purchase value. It is estimated by CBI that these properties could be about Rs 1.85 lakh crore, going by the present market rates.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
CBI has claimed in the FIR that PACL and PGF were running the schemes illegally and both firms were allegedly engaged in fraudulent activities including forgery in their operations. SKV MNL ARC. </div>

The CBI on Friday arrested Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Pearls Group Nirmal Singh Bhangoo and three other top officials in connection with Rs 45,000 crore alleged scam in which crores of investors were duped.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Bhangoo, CMD of PGF Limited and ex-Chairman of Pearls Australasia Pty Limited, along with Sukhdev Singh, MD and Promoter-Director of PACL, Gurmeet Singh, Executive Director (Finance) and Subrata Bhattacharya, ED in the PGF/PACL Ponzi Scheme Case, CBI Press Information Officer R K Gaur told reporters.<br />
Representational image. Reuters Representational image. Reuters<br />
Senior CBI officials said the four executives were arrested after detailed questioning today at agency headquarters.<br />
The sources said during the questioning they were giving inconsistent statements and stopped cooperating which resulted in their arrest.<br />
"The case involves alleged collection of Rs 45,000 crore from about 5.5 crore investors all over the country.<br />
The case was registered under sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) read with 420 (cheating) of IPC," Gaur said. The investors were lured with the promise of huge returns.<br />
Here are the key facts about the scam:<br />
<br />
1) According to Sebi, which had attached of PACL assets and its directors and promoters in December, the company had raised Rs 49,100 crore from nearly 5 crore investors. Besides, PACL has another group firm PGFL which has "illegally mobilised more than Rs 5,000 crore and failed to refund the same in spite of directions of Sebi and SAT", the regulator said.<br />
<br />
2) The mobilisation of funds by PACL Ltd traces back to 1990s. Upon receipt of a complaint, Sebi had first issued letters in November-December 1999 to PACL, advising it to comply with the provisions of the Sebi's CIS Regulations dealing with Collective Investment Schemes.<br />
<br />
3) As of December 2015, PACL needs to refund more than Rs 55,000 crore to investors. This includes promised returns, interest payout and other charges. Add to this the Rs 5000 crore that PGFL has raised and the amount easily goes above Rs 60,000 crore. This is much higher than Sahara scam, in which the refund is now likely to be around RS 40,000 crore.<br />
<br />
4) According to the SEBI order dated 22 August 2014, PACL was engaged in a ponzi scheme where it bought and sold agricultural land to investors promising high returns. The order said the company had "made arrangements to purchase the land through its 250 associate companies, in<br />
order to circumvent the applicable laws of land ceilings as it could not have held such huge<br />
stock of land through its direct holding".<br />
<br />
5) As of 2013, the company had executed 19,284 sale deeds, says the Sebi order. In the guise of selling agricultural land, it collected Rs 49,100 crore from 5.85 crore customers over a period of 15 years. This is the biggest-ever amount, as also the largest number of investors, so far involved in a case found to be running illegal money pooling scheme.<br />
<br />
6) "It is difficult for me to believe that a person in Uttar Pradesh will purchase 100-150 yds. of agricultural land 2,000 kilometers away. The lack of maintenance of proper records/ data is a clear indication that the activities of PACL are in the nature of ponzi scheme," Sebi whole-time member Prashant Saran said in the order.<br />
<br />
7) Sebi had in September 2015 slapped its biggest ever on PACL when it asked the company and its 4 directors to to pay up Rs 7,269.5 crore for illegal and fraudulent mobilisation of funds from the public. Sebi had then said PACL made huge illegal mobilisation of money, leading to consequent profit to the tune of over Rs 2,423 crore in a short span of less than one year.<br />
<br />
8) Sebi first issued a notice in November, 1999, to PACL, alleging that it "was operating CIS, wherein the funds of the investors were pooled and utilised towards the cost of land, registration expenses, developmental charges and other incidental expenses." The case later went to courts, while the Supreme Court passed an order in February 2013, directing Sebi to determine whether the business of PACL fell within the purview of CIS or not, and accordingly take further action in accordance with the law.<br />
<br />
9) Sebi in its order on 22 August 2014 said that it found that that "the business business/ activities/ schemes/ plans offered and operated by PACL are Collective Investment Schemes, satisfying all the ingredients specified under Section 11AA of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992". It also asked the company to wind up all its CISs and also refund all the funds raised from investors. PACL had approached the Securities Appellate Tribunal. The tribunal, in August 2015, upheld the markets regulator's order against the company. Further, PACL was directed to comply "with directions contained in the impugned order of Sebi dated August 22, 2014 within a period of three months."<br />

It's the festival of lights (deep = light and avali = a row i.e., a row of lights) that's marked by four days of celebration, which literally illumines the country with its brilliance, and dazzles all with its joy. This year Diwali falls on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Each of the four days in the festival of Diwali is separated by a different tradition, but what remains true and constant is the celebration of life, its enjoyment and goodness.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
What is Diwali? </h3>
<div>
<div>
Diwali, or Deepavali, is one of the biggest Indian festivals and also a major occassion in Nepal. The festival has great religious significance for Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and the Nepalese. In India, Diwali is now considered to be more of a national festival, and is enjoyed by most Indians regardless of faith. It is commonly celebrated by decorating homes with lamps and candles, bursting of firecrackers and sparklers, eating sweets and other mouthwatering dishes, praying to Gods and Goddesses, observing religious rituals, wearing new dresses and sending wishes and gifts to one another. </div>
</div>
<h4 style="text-align: left;">
Celebrate Dipaawali Happy Diwali 2015 - 2016</h4>
<div>
Hindus and Sikhs alike regard it as a celebration of life and use the occasion to strengthen family and social relationships. One of the most important Hindu festivals, Diwali marks the beginning of a new year in some Hindu calendars. For Hindus, the festival is not only the time to make merry but also the time to worship divine beings considered sacred in Hinduism like Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Mahabali. It is also a significant festival for the Sikh faith. For Jains, it is an occasion to remember Lord Mahavira. In Nepal, Diwali is celebrated by many Buddhists as Tihar or Swanti.</div>
<h4>
How to Celebrate</h4>
<div>
For Hindus this is one of the most important days of the year, and it involves spending time with family and performing traditional activities. Families clean their homes from top to bottom so that when the lamps are lit it will be suitable for the Goddess of wealth and knowledge, Lakshmi, to enter their home and bless them with good fortune for the upcoming year, as well as the God of good luck, Ganesh. Traditional families will make an offering to the goddess of fruit, rice pudding, flowers and other assorted gifts. To offer these goods the family performs a “puja,” which involves saying sacred words and singing. Unlike Western holidays, it’s also considered very important to refrain from eating meat and drinking alcohol in honor of the divine spirits being invited into your home.</div>
<h4 style="text-align: left;">
When is Diwali? </h4>
<div>
Though the number of days of the celebration of the festival differ with different communities, the actual days of observance of Diwali are common and fall on exactly the same set of days across Nepal and India. Going by the Gregorian calendar, Diwali in India is observed generally in the months of October or November. The festival comes exactly twenty days after Dussehra, another sacred Hindu occassion, and is celebrated for five consecutive days at the end of Hindu month of Ashvin. Diwali is on 11th November, 2015 and 30 October 2016.</div>

Dhanteras festival is celebrated on triodasi month of the Krishna Paksha (the dark fortnight).<br />
Dhanteras is an important part of Diwali festival celebrations. Dhanteras marks before the first day of Diwali celebrations. Dhanteras is also called Dhanvantari Trayodashi. It falls on the thirteenth lunar and light day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu calender month of Kartik (October-November) every year. The word 'Dhan' signifies money or wealth. On the day of Dhanteras, people worship the Goddess of Wealth (Goddess Maan Lakshmi). Since Dhanteras is associated with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, it is a very important celebration day in the homes of the mercantile community. In India, houses and market places wear a festive look on the day of Dhanteras and market places are abuzz with people all around.<br />
<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Rituals and Celebrations of Dhanteras </h3>
<div>
<div>
As Dhanteras is associated with the worship of Most Goddess Mata Lakshmi, all people draw small footprints with rice flour and vermilion powder throughout the house right from the access to be entered (indicating the arrival of Goddess Lakshmi). As Dhantrayodashi or Dhanteras is considered very auspicious for all, people shop for gold, silver and some utensils and many more. To celebrate the auspicious arrival of Goddess Lakshmi, the homes of people are illuminated by oil lamps, which are lit throughout the night. Mata Lakshmi Puja is also an important part of the Dhanteras celebrations. The Lakshmi-Puja is performed at midnight. Devotional songs, in praise of Goddess Lakshmi, are sung by the people. Goddess Lakshi is offered naivedya many type of sweets, which serve as the auspicious Prasad of the Goddess. In many parts of South India almost all over India, there is a tradition of cow worship by the farmers (on Dhanteras). For farmers, Pets cows signify wealth and are considered to be the incarnation of Goddess Maan Lakshmi.</div>
</div>
<h4 style="text-align: left;">
How Dhanteras is Observed:</h4>
<div>
<div>
The day is also observed as Yama deepdaan, as the lady of the house lights earthen Deeps or lamps throughout the night so as to appease Lord Yama, and ensure that their husbands and household is protected from all deaths and obstacles.</div>
<div>
It is a custom to buy jewellery of gold or silver on the night of Dhanteras and people from all walks of life make it a point that they invest a little of their money or savings so that they can buy at least a bit of gold or silver on this auspicious occasion. They also opt for buying a new utensil if there is any problem in buying gold or silver. Puja is performed on the site where the wealth of the house is kept, and Laxmi Puja is also performed along with that of Lord Ganesh.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Dhanteras falls on the thirteenth day of the month of ashwin. The word "Dhan" means wealth. As such this day of the five-day diwali festival has a great importance for the rich mercantile community of western India. Houses and business premises are renovated and decorated. Entrances are made colorful with lovely traditional motifs of rangoli designs to welcome the goddess of wealth and prosperity. To indicate her long-awaited arrival, small footprints are drawn with rice flour and vermilion powder all over the houses. Lamps are kept burning all through the nights. On this auspicious day women purchase some gold or silver or at least one or two new utensils. Pooja is performed in the evenings when tiny diyas of clay are lighted to drive away the shadows of evil spirits. "Bhajans"-devotional songs- are sung in praise of Goddess Maan Lakshmi.</div>

<br />
Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was born on October 2, 1869, and died on January 30, 1948. He was a political and spiritual leader in India and played a key role in the Indian independence movement. Gandhi developed the novel technique of non-violent agitation, which he called "Satyagraha", loosely translated as "moral domination".<br />
<br />
He is known for his non-violent civil disobedience in India and South Africa. These included the start of the non-cooperation movement in 1922 and the Salt Satyagraha or Salt (Dandi) March starting on March 12, 1930. Through Gandhi's efforts, India finally gained its freedom on August 15, 1947. The nation mourned for him after he was assassinated on January 30, 1948. The United Nations' (UN) International Day of Non-Violence is also held on October 2 each year to coincide with Mahatma Gandhi's birthday.<br />

The Raj Ghat on the banks of the river Yamuna in New Dehli where Mahatma Gandhi's body was cremated on January 31, 1948.<br />
The Triveni Sangam where the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati come together near Allahabad.<br />
The British controlled the production and distribution of cloth in India in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Mahatma Gandhi felt that India could never become independent until the country could produce its own cloth. He encouraged people to spin and weave cotton cloth using small scale traditional spinning wheels and looms. Hence, simple hand spinning wheels for cotton became an important symbol of the struggle for Indian independence and Mahatma Gandhi's life and work.<br />

<h2 style="text-align: left;">
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1MGU58Nauxcsk4_teZvMzz7B3Pe96xDI7l-M3guWzjkMSJW4FY2iLXnxPZobUi2TNqglvbTMgbVGDGjAWFuSar-pGkM_VkKyVD8I2s6DHMlKIG6PAqWJDBQbslEXCO2wIu4MX97Yn5BI/s1600/1503964_610622219010697_106943439_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="god vishwakarma" border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1MGU58Nauxcsk4_teZvMzz7B3Pe96xDI7l-M3guWzjkMSJW4FY2iLXnxPZobUi2TNqglvbTMgbVGDGjAWFuSar-pGkM_VkKyVD8I2s6DHMlKIG6PAqWJDBQbslEXCO2wIu4MX97Yn5BI/s320/1503964_610622219010697_106943439_n.jpg" title="virat vishwakrama" width="320" /></a>भगवान विश्वकर्मा ने ब्रम्हाजी की उत्पत्ति करके उन्हे प्राणीमात्र का सृजन करने का वरदान दिया और उनके द्वारा 84 लाख योनियों को उत्पन्न किया । <br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<div>
Vishwakarma puja is a popular festival in the Eastern and Northern parts of India. Vishwakarma is believed to be the deity who is the main architect of the Universe. <b>
</b></div>
<div>
According to the Hindu mythology, Lord Vishwakarma is considered the Divine Architect or the 'Dev Shilpi'. The Rig Veda describes Vishwakarma as the God with multi-dimensional vision and supreme strength. It is believed that most of the mythological architectures are the handiwork of Vishwakarma. He is believed to have been one of the gems born out of the churning of the ocean by the Gods and the demons, and is credited for creating the missiles that were used by the Gods in the mythological era. He is also the architect of the powerful weapon carried by Indra which is known as the Vajra. According to the mythological stories, Lord Vishwakarma is also responsible for creating the most popular architecture of the time, the golden palace of Lanka for the demon king Raavan. The story goes that once Lord Shiva asked Vishwakarma to build a palace for Him and His divine consort Parvati. Vishwakarma was overwhelmed by the request and He created a palace made of gold. For the housewarming ceremony of the palace, Lord Shiva invited the demon king, Raavan to perform the rituals. Raavan was totally smitten by the aura and the grandeur of the palace. So, when Lord Shiva asked him to ask anything as a return gift or 'Dakshina', Raavan asked Shiva for the golden palace itself. Lord Shiva was obliged to give away the palace as a return gift and hence the golden Lanka became Raavan's palace. Similarly, there are many other popular mythological architectures which have been built by Vishwakarma. Some of them are the Indraprastha which was the grand palace of the Pandavas in Mahabharata, Dwarka which was the divine abode of Lord Krishna and Hastinapur or the abode of the Kauravas. All of these wonders are supposed to be created by Vishwakarma. Hence Vishwakarma puja has its own importance in Hinduism. The God of architecture is appeased by worshipping the machines and vehicles. In some parts of India, people fly kites and mark the starting of the festive season in India.</div>

<br />
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Janmashtami</b> commemorates the earthly appearance of Krishna, who is described in India’s sacred writings as God Himself. One of the biggest religious festivals in the world, it is celebrated by nine hundred and thirty million people around the world--and two million in the US alone. To devotees, it’s Christmas and New Year’s in one, a day of deep spiritual renewal and celebration that effectively finishes an old year and begins a fresh one.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But why Janmashtami, you may ask? What’s so special about Krishna, as opposed to any other form of God? It’s His personable-ness. He reciprocates in unique, personal ways with every devotee who offers Him love—He is the most adorable, mischievous son, the most romantic lover, the most compassionate friend. And on Janmashtami, devotees celebrate Krishna in all of these aspects. For just as Krishna reciprocates individually with His relatives and confidantes, he responds to the distinct feelings and desires held most deeply in the heart of every single worshipper.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So remember that whatever way you worship Krishna on Janmashtami, He will reciprocate with you accordingly. It’s a meditation that makes for an extremely rewarding devotional experience.</div>
</div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">
How is Janmashtami Celebrated?</h2>
<div>
<div>
Where Vaishnava temples exist, festivities begin before dawn and extend all day until midnight, the exact moment of the anniversary of Krishna’s appearance. Events include kirtan, singing the Lord’s name along with other devotees; and japa, private, more intimate prayer. Some devotees cook a feast of over one hundred dishes, while others perform drama and dance. Some clothe and decorate the deity of Krishna while others string enormous flower garlands and other decorations for the temple. Incense burns, scriptures are read, and all but the young and the infirm fast all day. The deities are also bathed with a variety of auspicious liquids in a kind of ablution ceremony called abhisheka. Sometimes taking over two hours, this is performed with great pomp.</div>

Finally, at midnight, priests pull apart the curtains to reveal the</div>

freshly dressed deity of Krishna on a creatively festooned and colored</div>

altar. The excitement builds, and a rousing kirtan ensues.</div>

How to Celebrate Janmashtami at Home ?</h2>
<div>
<div>
You can brought by Krishna.com or </div>
<div>
<b>what if you don’t live near a temple?</b> What if you can’t make it to a major celebration Does that mean you can’t observe Janmashtami? Of course not. It is our sincere devotion that pleases Krishna most, and this can be offered anywhere. So to help you feel more connected to the Lord and His devotees on this special day, here are Krishna.com’s tips on how to celebrate Janmashtami at home:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Invite all your friends and family to participate in the festivities.</div>
<div>
Decorating your home for Krishna can be fun, particularly for children. Encourage them in helping to make garlands, hanging balloons and festoons of leaves, and generally making the house beautiful for Krishna’s appearance.</div>
<div>
Get a copy of the Vaishnava Songbook and choose some of your favorite bhajanas(devotional songs in praise of God) to sing. Krishna, also known as Murlidhara, or “one who holds the flute,” loves music. And so will your friends and family, as you take turns singing and playing instruments. Alternatively, play bhajan CDs and heighten the spiritual atmosphere.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You can also chant extra rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra on your japa mala (prayer beads). This is an intimate one on one exchange with Krishna, and makes you feel much closer to the Lord.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Read the story of Krishna’s advent and other exciting pastimes from Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead or Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto Ten. Pass the book around, and try dramatic readings to bring the story to life. Janmashtami is all about completely immersing yourself in thoughts of Krishna in a festive way.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you have Radha-Krishna deities, get extra special new outfits for Them. Exercise your creativity and pay special attention to decorating Their altar.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Recreate the temple program and hold an abhisheka bathing</div>
<div>
ceremony for your deities. Simply buy different liquids like yogurt,</div>
<div>
honey, ghee and fruit juices and bathe the deity with them while</div>
<div>
singing devotional songs.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Temples prepare at least one hundred and eight different food dishes on Janmashtami. Of course, you don’t have to go that far, unless you’re feeling particularly energetic! But it’s always nice to cook some very special preparations to offer to the Lord. Imagine that Krishna was actually right there, in your house—what would you offer Him? This makes for a wonderful meditation while cooking on Janmashtami.</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Have a midnight arati (worship ceremony) with a</div>
<div>
kirtan. This is the exact time that Krishna appeared on this</div>
<div>
planet, so it is most auspicious and spiritually inspiring. If you</div>
<div>
have arati paraphernalia, then you can do a full offering. If</div>
<div>
not, don’t worry–Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita, “If you</div>
<div>
offer Me with love a leaf, flower, fruit or water, I will accept it.”</div>
<div>
So offer whatever you can—it’s your love and devotion that matters.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Tune into Krishna.com’s webcams and watch the festivities going on at some of ISKCON’s major temples.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Buy a special gift for the Lord. You can wrap it and write a card to Krishna. Here are some gift ideas:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you have Deities you can buy or make jewelry, new clothes, garlands, peacock feathers, turban pieces, flutes or water cups</div>
<div>
Incense</div>
<div>
Fruit basket</div>
<div>
Offering plate</div>
<div>
New picture frame if you worship a picture of Krishna</div>
<div>
Brand new artist</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you are able to fast from food, fasting until midnight is recommended. If fasting is too difficult, then try to eat only light foods during the day. By putting our own needs aside and concentrating more on Krishna’s, we show our love for Him.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You can engage your children in many of the above activities. Depending on your children’s ages, they can help cook, make garlands, design a birthday card, play musical instruments, dance and chant Hare Krishna. There are many children’s books about Krishna as well as DVDs of Krishna pastimes at the Krishna.com store.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Children also enjoy dressing up as Radha, Krishna and their associates, and re-enacting Krishna’s pastimes. This helps to create a very festive mood.</div>
<div>
As you celebrate Janmashtami, remember that just as we enjoy the attention and fun on our birthday, so the Lord also enjoys our attention and gifts on His appearance day. The difference between us and Krishna is that He is able to reciprocate perfectly with each one of us. In the transcendental realm, everything that we offer to the Lord with love and devotion will benefit us unlimitedly, and those benefits will stay with us for eternity.</div>
</div>

Fasting Rules on Krishna Janmashtami </h2>
<div>
<div>
No grains should be consumed during Janmashtami fasting until the fast is broken on next day after Sunrise. All rules followed during Ekadashi fasting should be followed during Janmashtami fasting also. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Parana which means breaking the fast should be done at an appropriate time. For Krishna Janmashtami fasting, Parana is done on next day after Sunrise when Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra are over. If Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra don't get over before Sunset then fast can be broken during day time when either Ashtami Tithi or Rohini Nakshatra is over. When neither Ashtami Tithi nor Rohini Nakshatra is over before Sunset or even Hindu Midnight (also known as Nishita Time) one should wait to get them over before breaking the fast. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Depending on end timing of Ashtami Tithi and Rohini Nakshatra fasting on Krishna Janmashtami might continue for two complete days. Devotees who are not able to follow two days fasting might break the fast on next day after Sunrise. It has been suggested by Hindu religious text Dharmasindhu. </div>
<div>
Krishna Janmashtami is also known as Krishnashtami, Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Srikrishna Jayanti and Sree Jayanthi. </div>
</div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">
How do Hindus celebrate Janmashtami?</h2>
<div>
<div>
The devotees of Lord Krishna observe fast for the whole day and night, worshipping him and keeping vigil through the night while listening to his tales and exploits, recite hymns from the Gita, sing devotional songs, and chant the mantra Om namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Krishna's birthplace Mathura and Vrindavan celebrate this occasion with great pomp and show. Raslilas or religious plays are performed to recreate incidents from the life of Krishna and to commemorate his love for Radha.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Song and dance mark the celebration of this festive occasion all over northern India. At midnight, the statue of infant Krishna is bathed and placed in a cradle, which is rocked, amidst the blowing of conch shells and the ringing of bells.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the south western state of Maharashtra, people enact the god's childhood attempts to steal butter and curd from earthen pots beyond his reach. A similar pot is suspended high above the ground and groups of young people form human pyramids to try and reach the pot and break it.</div>
